What are the advantages and disadvantages of open-loop and closed-loop stepper control?

In the field of stepper motors, we all know that stepper motors have open-loop control, closed-loop control and bus control.

In many occasions, we are more commonly used to use open-loop stepper motor and matching open-loop stepper motor drivers, but in some mechanism design, we need to use closed-loop stepper control when we need to feedback the position of the stepper motor or feedback whether the step is lost, need to improve accuracy, etc. Next, Kaifu Technology will explain the advantages and disadvantages of open-loop stepper motor drivers and closed-loop drivers.

When we use open-loop stepper control, we have the following three main shortcomings:

1, vulnerable to external interference, once the error, can not be compensated, there is a lost step.

2, low frequency resonance, the motor is running at low speed vibration noise.

3, set the current constant, when the motor is running, the heat is larger.

In order to solve the shortcomings of open-loop stepper control, we have developed closed-loop stepper motor and driver, which can solve some problems encountered by stepper open-loop control, but relatively speaking, stepper closed-loop control has the following three shortcomings:

1, special load, need to adjust the PID parameters.

2, need to add an encoder loop, the line is slightly complicated.

3, compared with open loop control, the product price is slightly higher, the cost increases.

These are the advantages and disadvantages of open-loop stepper control and closed-loop stepper control explained by Kaifu Technology. If you have any other questions, please call for advice.
